2. A national park is a large area of land which is protected by the government because of its natural beauty, plants, or animals, and which the public can usually visit with some restrictions. As someone who lives in a noisy city, I was eager to experience pristine nature. We started our hike early in the morning under a crystal-clear sky. After walking along a winding trail surrounded by ancient pine forests, we arrived at the breathtaking Sant Maurici lake, where towering rocky peaks reflected on the calm water. While ascending towards a nearby waterfall, our guide suddenly signaled us to halt: a family of Pyrenean chamois was grazing peacefully on a steep slope just meters away. We also spotted several rare alpine orchids blooming beside the stream. Spending the day surrounded by untouched landscapes was rejuvenating. It made me appreciate how vital national parks are for preserving fragile wildlife.
