Write an opinion essay discussing whether a government should regulate the citizens' use of transportation based on environmental criteria.

Solución: Nowadays, climate change is one of the most pressing threats to our planet, and transportation accounts for a significant portion of greenhouse gas emissions. While flying offers unmatched speed and convenience, I firmly believe that governments should regulate transportation to prioritize environmental sustainability. First and foremost, voluntary changes in individual behaviour have proved insufficient to reduce emissions at the necessary pace. For instance, banning short-haul commercial flights where efficient rail alternatives exist—as recently seen in some European countries—can dramatically curb pollution without severely compromising mobility. Furthermore, regulation should be accompanied by positive incentives, such as subsidizing reliable and affordable public transit and taxing frequent flyers. This ensures that the transition is both equitable and effective. In conclusion, government intervention is essential to steer society towards greener travel habits. Decisive public policies are our best chance to protect the environment for future generations.
