Task 5 - Option c · Inglés PAU Murcia Ordinaria 2022

5. c) Opinion writing. We should all be totally free to decide if we want to be vaccinated against COVID-19. Do you agree?

Solución: Sample opinion essay: In my opinion, individual freedom regarding medical treatments must be respected, and vaccination against COVID-19 should remain a voluntary choice rather than a mandatory requirement. First and foremost, bodily autonomy is a fundamental human right. Every citizen has the right to decide what enters their body after being fully informed about potential benefits and side effects. Forcing medical procedures undermines trust in public institutions and healthcare systems, often generating skepticism and social polarization rather than encouraging compliance. Furthermore, persuasion and education have proven far more effective than imposition. Governments should invest in transparent communication campaigns, addressing citizens' doubts and highlighting the community benefits of immunization. When individuals choose to be vaccinated willingly, public compliance is stronger and long-lasting. Although vulnerable populations must be shielded, this protection can be achieved through targeted policies, hygiene protocols, and voluntary booster programs. In conclusion, while achieving high vaccination rates is undeniably crucial for collective health, coercion compromises civil liberties. Therefore, vaccination should always remain an informed, personal decision.
