Describe how one principal organ of the UN is made up and what tasks it has.

Lösung: Security Council (or General Assembly): - Composition: 15 members, including five permanent members (USA, Russia, Great Britain, France, China) with veto power, and ten non-permanent members elected by the General Assembly for two-year terms. - Responsibilities: Can adopt resolutions that are binding under international law to ensure the maintenance of international peace; can threaten or call upon UN members to implement various enforcement measures, such as sanctions or the use of military force. (Alternatively: General Assembly, Secretariat, ECOSOC, or International Court of Justice).

Describe how a second principal organ of the UN is made up and what tasks it has.

Lösung: General Assembly (or another main body such as the Security Council, Secretariat, International Court of Justice): - Composition: Representatives of all 193 member states, each state having one vote. - Responsibilities: Adopts recommendatory (non-binding under international law) resolutions; examines and approves the UN budget; elects the non-permanent members of the Security Council; appoints the UN Secretary-General on the recommendation of the Security Council.
