The first two days were quiet and peaceful, but on Wednesday night a thick fog rolled down from the mountains, isolating the house completely. Around midnight, while everyone else was asleep, I was reading downstairs when I heard a soft, rhythmic knocking against the living room window. I pulled back the curtains, but there was only deep darkness outside. Suddenly, a cold breeze swept through the room, though all doors and windows remained firmly locked. At that very moment, the antique clock on the mantelpiece began chiming backwards, counting hours that made no sense. Trembling with fear, I called my brother. When he came down, the noises abruptly stopped and the room temperature returned to normal. We never found any logical explanation for what had occurred, but neither of us could sleep soundly for the remainder of our stay.
