a) Explain two of the ways in which beauty filters affect people and society.

Solución: Beauty filters can negatively affect mental health and self-perception by creating unrealistic beauty standards; they lead to low self-esteem among adolescent girls; they increase requests for plastic surgery to resemble the filters; they perpetuate racial biases (stereotypically white features); and they can contribute to the normalization of the sexualization of children.

b) What is the difference between the previous and latest generations of beauty filters?

Solución: Previous generations of beauty filters were glitchy (passing a hand in front of the face disrupted the effect), whereas the latest generation filters are life-like and allow users to move and gesticulate without breaking the illusion.

c) Why is the “Teen” filter problematic?

Solución: Because it allows adults to pose in sexually suggestive ways while appearing to be teenagers, which contributes to the dangerous normalization of the sexualization of children.
