Ejercicio 5 - Option a · Inglés PAU Baleares Ordinaria 2025

a) Do you think public spaces, such as cafés or restaurants, should allow free access to their toilets for everyone, even if they haven't made a purchase? Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of allowing free access to toilets in public spaces.

Solución: Sample response: Nowadays, the debate over whether public venues such as cafés and restaurants should grant free restroom access to everyone is increasingly relevant. While some view clean facilities as a basic human necessity, business owners often face practical hurdles. On the one hand, providing unconditional access promotes public hygiene and benefits tourists, pregnant women, and people with medical conditions. It also enhances a city's hospitality and prevents uncomfortable or unhygienic situations on the streets. On the other hand, business establishments bear significant maintenance, water, and cleaning costs. If non-paying individuals overuse the facilities, paying customers may face long queues or unkempt toilets, which can damage the establishment's reputation and profits. In conclusion, although access to sanitation should ideally be guaranteed by local councils through public amenities, private businesses should show reasonable flexibility, balancing community solidarity with operational respect.
