29.1. Animals in captivity. Are zoos good or bad? Give reasons.

Solución: Sample composition (at least 120 words): Nowadays, the debate over whether zoos are beneficial or harmful to animals remains highly controversial. While some people believe that keeping animals in captivity is cruel, others argue that modern zoos play an essential role in conservation. On the one hand, traditional cages restrict animals' freedom and prevent them from engaging in natural behaviors. Large mammals, such as elephants or big cats, often suffer from stress and mental health issues due to confined spaces and lack of stimulation. On the other hand, reputable modern zoos focus on education, research, and the protection of endangered species. Through specialized breeding programs, several species on the brink of extinction have been successfully preserved and reintroduced into their natural habitats. Additionally, visiting zoos raises awareness among the public, especially children, about environmental conservation. In conclusion, while outdated zoos should definitely be closed, ethically managed conservation parks and sanctuaries are positive and necessary institutions for protecting biodiversity.
